Torrance, CA – Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) presented this month’s Taste of Assembly District 66, Environmental Stewardship and Small Business of the Month Awards to two South Bay businesses and a local organization this month.  The awardees are The Kettle restaurant, Surfrider Foundation South Bay Chapter and Pages Bookstore.

Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s bill to streamline construction of Beach Cities Health District’s new assisted living facility for seniors passes key Senate committee.

Streamlined construction method will save tax payers up to $20 million, and bring well-paying, middle class jobs to the community

Torrance, CA – Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) Assembly Bill (AB) 994 unanimously passed the Senate Governance and Finance Committee today.  The bill will allow a much-needed upgrade of the Beach Cities Health District’s (BCHD) campus to be built using a streamlined design-build construction method that will cut costs of construction by as much as 20 percent.  The upgrades include much needed maintenance on the original hospital facility, and construction of an assisted living center for the expanding senior population in the South Bay.

Torrance, CA – Yesterday, in a bipartisan vote, the California State Assembly adopted Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) HR 47, which officially recognizes June 17, 2017 as International Surfing Day in the State of California, and commends all those who work diligently to protect our state’s beaches and ocean environments.

Assemblymember Muratsuchi's bill to protect child sexual assault victims from repeated court proceedings passes Senate Public Safety Committee

Sacramento, CA – This week, the California Senate Public Safety Committee passed Assembly Bill (AB) 368, a measure meant to protect young child sexual assault victims from reliving their assault details multiple times in court.  With this bill, when an offender commits certain sexual crimes with a minor in multiple jurisdictions, the offenses may be joined and heard in any one of those locations.  The bill expands the ages of the victims from just 10-14 years old under current law to all children under the age of 14.

“President Trump’s decision to pull  out of the Paris climate agreement is just plain wrong.  Trump is not only on the opposite side of most every scientist around the world, he is also putting the future of our planet, and our children, in jeopardy.   There are real consequences to not taking action against climate change, including significant  sea level rise right here in the South Bay.  Climate change is real, and  by pulling out of this agreement, we are choosing to ignore a problem that will affect our world, for generations to come.”

Torrance, CA – On Thursday, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) Assembly Bill (AB) 1649 passed the Assembly Floor with bipartisan support. The bill will codify and make permanent the existing Interagency Refinery Task Force created by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr.

Torrance, CA – On Wednesday, Assembly Bill (AB) 491, which establishes $3 million in education grants regarding the World War II Japanese American incarceration, passed the Assembly Floor.  Specifically, the bill will extend funding for the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program, run by the State Library, through an appropriation of $3 million in General Funds that will be distributed over the next three years.

Torrance, CA – On Wednesday, the Assembly Floor today passed Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) Assembly Bill (AB) 1646, which calls for the creation and maintenance of a publicly accessible community alert plan, using notifications such as reverse 911, text, email PSAs.  It also requires the maintenance of a public alert system including, but not limited to, alarms and sirens to alert the public in case of an emergency.
