Torrance, CA – The California Senate passed AB 562, the Audit Protection Act, by a vote of 5-1. Jointly authored by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance), along with Assemblymembers Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) and Phil Ting (D-San Francisco), the bill would impose a civil penalty of up to $5,000 on anyone who intentionally deceives, defrauds, obstructs or interferes with the California State Auditor in the performance of his or her official duties.

Torrance, CA –The Assembly Natural Resources Committee passed SB 188, a bill authored by Senator Hannah Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) and co-authored by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi, Senate pro Tempore Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) and Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens), that would prohibit the State Lands Commission from approving any leases authorizing the new exploration or development of oil and gas drilling off the California coast. It would also prohibit the renewal of leases that would engage in any new exploration or development of oil or gas drilling.

Torrance, CA –The Senate Health Committee passed Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) Assembly Bill (AB) 651, the Culturally Competent Health Care Facilities Bill. The bill strengthens the state Attorney General’s oversight authority to preserve and promote culturally sensitive and language-appropriate health care for the state’s increasingly diverse seniors.
“Many seniors in the South Bay and throughout the state are deeply concerned about culturally sensitive and language-appropriate health care services,” said Muratsuchi. “We need to strengthen the Attorney General’s public interest oversight authority so that we can preserve and promote culturally sensitive health care when a nonprofit provider is sold to a for-profit buyer.”
