Torrance, CA – Statement by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi on why he signed on as joint author on the cap and trade bill:
“I am proud to be joint author of AB 398, the cap and trade extension, and AB 617, the air quality improvement bill. Climate change is perhaps the greatest challenge facing our planet Earth. California is leading our nation in the fight against climate change, and the cap and trade program is an important part of this fight.
“The cap and trade bill addresses the global crisis of climate change, while the companion air quality improvement bill addresses local demands for cleaner, healthier air. The air quality bill will require the Torrance Refinery in my district to retrofit their equipment to cut down on excessive flaring, toxic emissions, and pollutants. While not perfect, this bill package is an important step forward in California’s ongoing fight against climate change and air pollution.”
Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi represents California’s 66th Assembly District, which includes El Camino Village, Gardena, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, and West Carson.
