Torrance, CA – On Friday, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi presented Assembly District 66’s “Women of Distinction 2017” awards, including the “Woman of the Year 2017” award, in downtown Torrance.
Carol Pike Bauer, a former aerospace engineer with McDonnell Douglas, was recognized as the “Woman of the Year 2017”.
Other “Women of Distinction 2017” award recipients included:

- Honorable Martha Deutsch, Member, Torrance Unified School District Board of Education
- Eve R. Irvine, Chief of Manhattan Beach Police Department
- Dr. Sally Hayati, President of Torrance Refinery Action Alliance
- Nichelle Henderson, Instructor and Field Supervisor for Cal State Teach
- Joeann Valle, Executive Director of the Los Angeles Gateway Chamber of Commerce
“I am proud to honor these amazing South Bay women,” said Assemblymember Muratsuchi. “They are leaders in business, law enforcement, aerospace, education, and the environment. They are inspiring.”
Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi represents California’s 66th Assembly District, which includes El Camino Village, Gardena, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, and West Carson. He serves as Chairman of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Aerospace. Muratsuchi is a member of the Assembly Committees on Budget, Budget Subcommittee 2, Appropriations, Natural Resources, Utilities and Energy, and Veterans Affairs.
