Statement from Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) on U.S. Chemical Safety Board’s Report on ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery’s 2015 Explosion in Torrance

Torrance, CA - “The U.S. Chemical Safety Board’s (CSB) findings about the 2015 explosion at the Torrance Refinery are both troubling and serious. According to the report, the refinery failed to put into place adequate safety procedures, update its equipment and train workers adequately. But the agency, unfortunately, cannot enforce their recommendations.

Torrance, CA – Today, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) spoke at a press conference announcing Toyota’s “Project Portal,” a hydrogen fuel cell system for heavy-duty trucks at the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.  The hydrogen fuel cell system will be a part of a feasibility study examining the potential of fuel cell technology in trucks, and will support the Ports’ Clean Air Action Plan.

Assemblymember Muratsuchi advances bill on culturally sensitive senior health care

(SACRAMENTO) -  Assembly Bill 651, authored by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance), passed the Assembly Health Committee today on a bipartisan vote of 11-1.  This bill strengthens the Attorney General’s oversight authority to preserve and promote culturally sensitive and language appropriate health care for our increasingly diverse seniors.

Resolutions acknowledge contributions of Aerospace and Aviation industries

Sacramento, CA – Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance), Chairman of the Select Committee on Aerospace, recognized “California Aerospace and Aviation Days” on the Assembly Floor today, and introduced guests in conjunction with the event which runs March 27-29.  Muratsuchi spoke to the Assembly about the significant number of jobs the multi-billion dollar industry brings to the State of California. 

Assembly Bill (AB) 491, Which Establishes $3M In Grants For Education on Japanese American Incarceration, Passes Assembly Education Committee Unanimously

Torrance, CA – Assembly Bill (AB) 491, which establishes $3 million in grants to the State Library for the education of Japanese American incarceration, today passed the Assembly Education Committee on a unanimous vote of 7-0.  Specifically, the bill will extend funding for the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program, run by the State Library, through an appropriation of $3 million in General Funds that will be distributed over the next three years.
