Torrance, CA – Assembly Bill (AB) 491, which establishes $3 million in grants to the State Library for the education of Japanese American incarceration, today passed the Assembly Education Committee on a unanimous vote of 7-0.  Specifically, the bill will extend funding for the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program, run by the State Library, through an appropriation of $3 million in General Funds that will be distributed over the next three years.

Sacramento, CA – Today, the California Assembly Committee on Public Safety unanimously passed Assembly Bill (AB) 368, a measure meant to protect young child sexual assault victims from reliving their assault details multiple times in court.  With this bill, when an offender commits certain sexual crimes with a minor in multiple jurisdictions, the offenses may be joined and heard in any one of those locations.  The bill expands the ages of the victims from just 10-14years old under current law to all children under the age of 14.

Torrance - Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) today announced the introduction of a package of bills and budget requests to increase safety at the refinery in Torrance. Two years ago, an explosion at the Torrance refinery injured four workers and damaged equipment, forcing a shutdown of the refinery and raising the concerns of residents living in the surrounding area.  Last fall, Muratsuchi worked with community stakeholders to develop a six-point plan to improve safety at the Torrance refinery.

(SACRAMENTO) -  The State Assembly today passed Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 1, by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance), proclaiming February 19, 2017, as the 75^th Anniversary of the issuance of Executive Order 9066 and recognizing a Day of Remembrance in California. 

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D - Torrance) introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 461.  The proposed measure would exempt individuals from incurring a burdensome and unfair tax liability when their student loans are forgiven under federal repayment programs.
