Sacramento – Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) released the following statement regarding the recent fire at the Torrance Refinery and the announcement that the Southern California Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) will hold a public hearing in Torrance to examine recent operational problems at the refinery:
“I have introduced five bills to carry out my Torrance Refinery Safety Plan, including a bill to ban the use of the highly toxic hydrofluoric acid. This weekend’s fire at the refinery, on the two year anniversary of the explosion that rocked our community, is a stark reminder of the work we have to do to make the refinery safer. I look forward to the SCAQMD hearing and working with the refinery and their workers.”
The SCAQMD hearing date has not yet been set.
