Lively conversation on local issues like housing and homelessness, bike lanes and e-bikes, public safety and retail theft, education and LGBTQ students, rooftop solar, and others. Thank you City of Hermosa Beach for hosting the town hall!
Manhattan Wine Auction is a big fundraiser to support Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD). Thank you Manhattan Beach Education Foundation for inviting Hiroko and me to join this great South Bay tradition!
Congratulations to the city of City of Rancho Palos Verdes – Government and the other cities on the Hill for the installation of their new 360-degree Pano AI Wildfire detection system. I am proud to have secured $1.5 million in state funds for this effort. As the climate changes, we are seeing a greater number of fires all over California. Unfortunately, this includes the entire Peninsula. There have been several fires here over the last few years, more than ever before. This system will help protect the Peninsula and the families who live there.
Congratulations to the South Bay LGBTQ Center for being recognized as my Nonprofit of the Year! The Center is located in Torrance and supports LGBTQ+ individuals in the South Bay and South LA.
The organization was founded in 1989 during a time when those in the South Bay aerospace industry feared losing their US Defense Department security clearance if they were outed as LGBTQ.
With today’s ongoing culture wars targeting the LGBTQ community, the Center continues to provide a sanctuary for those facing hate and discrimination.
At the State Capitol with the Pride flag waving, with president Sarah Leinen, treasurer Alphonzo Hicks, and Erick Ponce-Furlos with my Torrance office.
You did great and you're on your way to doing greater things and hopefully making the world a better place.

Honoring the men and women who gave their lives for our country and our freedom.
Met with California School Boards Association leaders to discuss my bill to require school board members to receive proper fiscal management training as well as the state budget.
US Space Force was featured this year, with Parade Grand Marshal Lt General Philip Garant of Space Systems Command, Honorary Grand Marshal NASA astronaut Colonel Michael Hopkins, and Senior Ranking Flag Officer Colonel Mia Walsh, Base Commander of LA Air Force Base.
I was joined in the parade by longtime Torrance Sister City Association leader Hazel Taniguchi.
I recently joined the API Legislative Caucus on the Assembly Floor to recognize and celebrate May as AAPI Heritage Month.
I was honored to recognize, posthumously, Alan Nishio from Gardena as an honoree. Mr. Nishio, who died in December, served as the President of the Board of Directors for the Little Tokyo Service Center for over 12 years and served 36 years as a member of the Board. Alan was also awarded the Order of the Rising Sun (Kunsho) award from the Japanese Government for his work with the Japanese American community and for his efforts to strengthen relations between Japan and the United States.
