Dr. Raul Artal-Mittelmark, a Palos Verdes resident, is the recipient of the 2019 AD 66 Holocaust Remembrance Resolution. He is pictured with the Assemblymember and Rabbi Rabbi Brian Schuldenfrei of Congregation Ner Tamid.
He was born in a labor concentration camp in Ukraine. After the Russian Army liberated the camp in 1944, Dr. Artal-Mittelmark, who was very young at the time, and his parents returned to their hometown of Czernowitz in Ukrainian Bukovina, which came under control of the Soviet Union. After many attempts to flee, his parents were finally able to move to Romania and then 12 years later to the United States, and in another a year they immigrated to Israel. After completing high school and serving in the Israeli Army, Dr. Artal-Mittelmark met his future wife, Micha. Together they completed medical school and then moved to the U.S. for advanced training, where he specialized in high-risk obstetrics. He enjoyed a rewarding and successful academic and medical career while they raised three children and were blessed with eight grandchildren.
Over 300 families attended my 3rd Annual Children's Health Fair at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in West Carson! The fair offered free dental screenings, backpacks, lunch boxes, bike helmets and school supplies. Lots of information on children's health and diet, CPR lessons, LGBTQ+ support services, and of course, a visit from Spiderman and superhero friends. A big thank you to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and the Community for your support and participation.
Assemblymember Muratsuchi held a Peace and Unity in the Community resource fair at the Harbor City Recreation Center.
Thank you to Virgin Orbit for hosting the Assembly Select Committee on Aerospace!
Thank you to Child 360, First 5 LA, LAUSD, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education for a tour of the Gardena Early Education Center. I have always made a world-class education for every student my top priority in Sacramento. I am committed to continuing the fight to ensure that students of every age have the resources they need to be successful. I am confident that if we continue to work together through creative partnerships and increased support from that state we will be able to provide every student the education they deserve.
I am proud to join the with The Volunteer Center by authoring a State Resolution recognizing May as Mental Health Month. I commend the Volunteer Center staff and board for their focus on the mental health and wellness of our students as we face a crisis in our state and in the South Bay. In addition to authoring AB 272 to ensure we are thoughtful about student's smart phone use, my office has joined their newly-created Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force. I look forward to continuing to work with the Volunteer Center and our schools to ensure our student's mental health needs are thoughtfully addressed.
