State Water Board Virtual Public Hearing

Called for shutting down the AES Redondo Beach power plant by the end of this year at yesterday's State Water Board virtual public hearing. I also introduced AB 353 to shut the Redondo Beach plant down by the end of this year. This fossil fuel-powered plant emits air pollution impacting more than 21,000 South Bay residents who live within a mile of the plant. On top of that, coastal once-through-cooling plants like the Redondo plant causes tremendous damage to the ocean and marine ecosystem.

The Water Board is considering whether to extend the Redondo plant’s operation in order to ensure that there is adequate and reliable energy generation for Southern California.

Thanks to Redondo Beach Mayor Bill Brand for leading this fight and to State Senator Ben Allen for being a principal co-author of AB 353!
