Redondo Beach School Superintendent Dr. Nikki Wesley dropped by my South Bay office to update me on what's happening at Redondo schools. Love my Redondo Seahawks cap!
Yesterday I stood with my colleagues at the Capitol along with California Governor Gavin Newsom as he signed legislation that will protect California consumers from Big Oil companies price gouging at the gas pump.
The legislation gives the California Energy Commission power to regulate the oil industry to ensure that oil companies are not engaging in anti-competitive price gouging.
Standing beside me is my daughter Sophia, who spent the day with me yesterday at the Capitol.
Hosted my first El Segundo Community Coffee and Town Hall today. Great discussion with an engaged community about what I am working on as their new Assemblymember.
Discussion included my new bill (AB 1216) that will monitor air quality and emissions from the nearby Hyperion sewage treatment plant, crime, housing prices, gas prices and climate change.
Thanks to all the local officials who attended, including El Segundo Mayor Drew Boyles and City Council and El Segundo School Board.
Toured Hyperion sewage treatment plant. While Hyperion is working hard to address El Segundo residents' concerns over emissions and odors, I introduced AB 1216, a transparency and accountability measure to ensure Hyperion has a proper fence-line monitoring system capable of measuring hazardous emissions. Residents of El Segundo and other surrounding communities deserve to know the air is safe to breathe.
Toured Boeing El Segundo campus, the world's largest satellite factory.
Employing more than 5000 people, this global leader is a big reason why the South Bay is the aerospace capital of the world.
I couldn't take pictures because of security restrictions, but there is mind-blowing advanced manufacturing taking place behind those 1950s facade buildings, to maintain our country's competitive advantage in commercial communications and military reconnaissance.
As Chair of Assembly Select Committee on Aerospace, spoke at Raytheon aerospace employees dinner.
Raytheon employs more than 6000 at their El Segundo campus, one of the largest employers in the South Bay. They are a big part of why the South Bay is the aerospace capital of the world.
Thank you president Michael Valdovinos for the invitation.
South Bay PTA leaders at the California State PTA conference in Sacramento! As Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, I gave an update on what's happening at the State Capitol.
Redondo Beach PTA in full force in Sacramento, advocating for our kids and our schools. They shared heart wrenching personal stories of the youth mental health crisis in Redondo. California has launched a $4 billion statewide initiative to get more school mental health counselors.
I was honored to nominate Colonel Mia L. Walsh as our AD 66 Woman of the Year yesterday at the Capitol.
She has spent her career in public service, both in the United States Air Force and now in the United States Space Force. She is currently the Commander of Space Base Delta 3 at the Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo, where she leads five squadrons and six staff agencies, totaling more than 850 personnel with $1.3 billion in physical plant assets. In her previous assignment, she served as Chief of Operations in the National Joint Operations and Intelligence Center (NJOIC) in Washington, D.C.
