Torrance, CA – Today, Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) re-introduced his bill to bring California to the top ten in the nation in per pupil spending. This bill proposes a funding target under California’s Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) which would increase the state’s K-12 funding by $35 billion over an unspecified number of years.
Torrance, CA – Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) Assembly Bill (AB) 1775 and State Senator Hannah Beth Jackson’s Senate Bill (SB) 834, which prohibit any new pipelines or other infrastructure in state waters that would support new offshore oil drilling and development off California’s coast.

AB 2791 allows stray kittens and puppies to be immediately released to rescue groups
Torrance – Governor Jerry Brown has signed Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) Assembly Bill (AB) 2791 into law. This law, which is sponsored by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), will allow stray, motherless kittens and puppies less than eight weeks of age to be immediately released from the shelter to rescue groups rather than be required to stay at the shelter for three days, as is required by current law. The immediate release of these animals is meant to ensure their health and survival, as unweaned kittens and puppies are more vulnerable to disease at the shelter and are at high-risk for euthanasia.
Torrance, CA – Today, Governor Jerry Brown signed Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) and Joint Author Assembly Majority Leader Ian Calderon (D-Whittier)’s Assembly Bill 1782, a bill which establishes surfing as California’s state sport. Torrance, CA – Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance)’s Assembly Bill 1775, jointly authored by Assemblymember Monique Limón (D-Santa Barbara), passed the Assembly Floor on a bipartisan vote of 45-24. The bill, introduced in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement of their intention to expand offshore oil and gas drilling in federal waters, will ensure that pipelines and other infrastructure cannot be built in California waters to support any new federal oil development.
“We need to protect our beautiful South Bay coast and as well as coasts throughout California. This bill will help protect the health of the residents who live and work near the coast as well as the marine environment,” said Assemblymember Muratsuchi.
(San Francisco) –Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance) and joint author Assemblymember Bill Quirk wrote the “panic button” bill (Assembly Bill 1761) so hotels would be required to provide employees working alone in a guest room with a “panic button.” Assemblymember Muratsuchi said the legislation’s intent is simple, “Hotel employees deserve to feel safe when they are doing their job.”
