Great turnout at Destination Art's 10th anniversary celebration this weekend. Destination Art is an art studio and gallery in Torrance that brings art and beauty to the community. They work with local business members and city/county government officials to help the community prosper. I presented a certificate to Destination Art's President, Margaret Lindsey. Congrats to Destination Art of the South Bay on their 10th anniversary.

As Chair of Assembly Education Committee, I am ready to fight, to protect all of our students, and to protect public education. Thank you State Superintendent Tony Thurmond for inviting education leaders throughout the state to stand for our students and for public education.

Congratulations to the City of Redondo Beach for being the first city in LA County to achieve Functional Zero in homelessness!
Yesterday, Senator Ben Allen, Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell, and many other South Bay officials participated in an event hosted by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (SBCCOG), to recognize Redondo Beach's leadership in addressing the homeless crisis.
To achieve Functional Zero, the number of individuals placed in interim or permanent housing must be greater than the number of individuals who become homeless over six months, and the homeless population, as a whole, must have a median duration on the streets of less than 90 days.
Redondo Beach began its Functional Zero journey in 2017 when it hired a case manager to tackle a homeless count of 261 people. Tasked with addressing the city's growing homeless issue, City Attorney Mike Webb also launched programs utilizing federal, state, and county funding and collaboration to provide resources for the city's unhoused. These included Homeless Court, Pallet Shelter Interim Housing, Project Homekey Housing Site, and Client Aid and Single Room Occupancy Beds.
Thanks to Redondo Beach's City Attorney Mike Webb and Homeless Navigator Lila Omura for all their leadership in fighting homelessness. Thank you Ronson Chu, Senior Project Management, Homeless Services at SBCCOG, for your regional leadership.
Great discussion with Lomita residents about the cost of housing, affordable childcare for working families, crime, illegal fireworks, and other local concerns. One senior shared her worries about not being able to keep up with rising rents. Lomita has more renters than homeowners.
Thank you Congressman Adam Schiff for visiting the Palos Verdes landslide area this week. Joining him for the tour was Congressman Ted Lieu and his wife Betty, State Senator Ben Allen, Rancho Palos Verdes Councilmembers David Bradley and Paul Seo, Rolling Hills Councilmembers Patrick Wilson and Jeff Pieper, myself, and other officials.
The devastation was breathtaking. I will continue to work with federal, state, and local governments to help residents deal with this ongoing natural disaster.
I spoke to the residents of Gardena this weekend at my Gardena Community Town Hall. We had a great discussion focusing on housing, homelessness, education, and public safety. Thank you to Gardena Councilmembers Wanda Love and Mark Henderson for attending.
