I recently honored local Veteran George Casillas, Founder and Executive Director of Veterans Stand Together (VEST). VEST has helped over 1,000 veterans with services like vocational training, housing placement, and mental health services. Thank you, George and the entire team at VEST for all you do for Veterans in the South Bay! Also, if you or anybody you know needs help getting connected with veterans resources, please call my district office and we would be happy to assist.
Vietnam veteran John Warhank of Torrance shared his experience of "loss of trust" when they were not welcomed home like WWII veterans, his struggles with the VA bureaucracy to get treatment, and how he designs jewelry and does gardening "for therapy." John, thank you for your service. Torrance Bakery donated the cookies.

The meeting finished with a round of cookies for everyone and a swag bag full of goodies to take home!
Yesterday I spoke at a rally to celebrate the passage of SB 54, the Plastic Pollution Producer Responsibility Act. I co-authored this bill with Senator Ben Allen to keep millions of tons of single-use plastics out of our waterways and will protect our environment for generations to come. I want to thank my colleagues in the State Legislature and our advocates at the local level who gave us the support we needed to get this bill passed!
