I presented a $1.5 million state budget check to the mayors of the four cities on the Hill today for a new wildfire detection camera system. The system will be used to identify, evaluate and warn of wildfire activity within a 15-mile radius. Virtually the entire Peninsula is located within a Cal Fire-designated Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. As a result, more protection is needed for wildfires.
The state budget allocation will help ensure availability of long-term funding for the system, which will cost $700,000 for the first five years of operation. Camera installation will begin in the coming weeks at four locations in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes that will provide coverage of all four Peninsula cities.
Thank you to Dave Bradley, Mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes, Victoria Lozzi, Mayor of Palos Verdes Estates, Pat Wilson, Mayor of City of Rolling Hills and Frank Zerunyan, Mayor of Rolling Hills Estates for your advocacy on this issue and your attendance today at the event.

Seniors at Skyline Mobile Home Park in Torrance packed their community room, with many expressing their fear of being driven out of their homes because of a spike in land lease rent under new ownership.
Mobile homes are the last remaining affordable housing in the South Bay, and these seniors living on fixed incomes are afraid they can't keep up with dramatic increases in rent.
