As Chair of Assembly Education Committee, toured a Sacramento area community school with Governor Gavin Newsom, First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, and Assemblyman Kevin McCarty.

California has launched community schools in disadvantaged communities to address pandemic learning loss as well as youth mental health, providing wraparound services like academic tutoring and free meals.

We visited Encina High School, where 95 percent of students are low income and disadvantaged, and over 40 percent are refugees from war-torn countries like Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Syria.
