Senate passes Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s bill that supports military families deal with local high school graduation requirements

For immediate release:

Torrance, CA –Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi’s (D-Torrance) Assembly Bill (AB) 365, which would allow children of active military personnel to be exempted from local graduation coursework requirements that go above and beyond state graduation requirements, passed the Senate Floor on a bipartisan, unanimous 40-0 vote.

“Growing up on military bases myself, I know that military families sacrifice much for our country and are required to move often.  As a result, it can be difficult for students in military families to graduate from high school on time, especially if their new school has local graduation requirements that go above and beyond state graduation requirements. This bill would recognize their hardship and give them a break to graduate on time as long as they meet state graduation requirements,” said Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi.

Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi represents California’s 66th Assembly District, which includes El Camino Village, Gardena, Harbor City, Harbor Gateway, Hermosa Beach, Lomita, Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, and West Carson.  He serves as Chairman of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Aerospace.  Muratsuchi is a member of the Assembly Committees on Budget, Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance, Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials, Natural Resources, Utilities and Energy, and Veterans Affairs.
